7 Easy Steps to Make Your Own Back to School Coloring Pages

Welcome back to school! As a teacher, you understand how important it is to create a warm and inviting environment for your students. One way to do this is by having something personalized on your students’ desks when they walk in that first day or week. I discovered making these adorable “Welcome Back to School Coloring Pages” for my students was just the ticket!

In this blog post, I will guide you through the process I have used to create personalized Back to School Coloring Pages for your 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. These coloring pages will spark their creativity and make them feel special and excited about the upcoming year of learning and growth.

How to Make Your Own Back to School Coloring Pages

Step 1: Choose Your Layout

First, open PowerPoint and decide whether you want your Welcome Back to School Coloring Pages to be in landscape or portrait orientation. Both options work well, so choose the one that best suits your design preferences and the clipart you plan to use.

Step 2: Create a Colorable Border

On the first slide, start by adding a clipart border to create a neat and visually appealing frame for the coloring page. If you can’t find a suitable border, you can use the shapes tool to draw your own border. Make sure it’s fun and engaging, setting the tone for a playful coloring experience.

Step 3: Choose the Right Font

Choosing the right font is essential as it will be enlarged to accommodate the student’s name. Opt for a font that is both fun and legible when enlarged. To make the font “colorable,” click on “Shape Format” and choose the font with an outline. Set the outline color to black and the inside color to either white or no color, ensuring that the students can easily color in their names.

Step 4: Add Black and White Clip Art

Now comes the time to add some black and white clip art to the coloring pages. Choose images that resonate with the Back to School theme, such as school supplies, books, pencils, or friendly animals holding welcome signs. Be creative and mix and match clip art to make your coloring pages unique.

Step 5: Personalize for Each Student

Once you have your template set up, it’s time to personalize each coloring page for every student in your class. Duplicate the first slide and change the name to include the name of each student. Repeat this process for all the students in your class, ensuring that each of them has a personalized coloring page to enjoy.

Step 6: Print and Distribute

Once you’ve customized all the coloring pages, print them out. Ensure you have a page with each student’s name on it.  These Back to School Coloring Pages will be perfect to have on your students’ desks on the first day of school. They’ll be excited to see their names on the coloring pages, and it will set a positive tone for the new academic year.

Step 7: Create a Bulletin Board Display

After your students have completed their coloring pages, collect them and use them to create a cute bulletin board display in your classroom. This will showcase their creativity and add an inclusive touch to your classroom. Your students will feel proud to see their pages on display!
