The few weeks of school in December are perfect for reviewing and reinforcing ELA and grammar skills. Student attention spans are short, so use this time to review synonyms, antonyms, conjunctions, prepositions, and sentence structure.
This done-for-you Christmas ELA resource will help you to calm the stress and noise by adding a Color-by-Code activity. Full of independent grammar review, your students will feel festive while reviewing important skills.

5th graders love to give their opinions on everything, so get them writing these few weeks before Winter Break. I created this Christmas Opinion Writing resource to help my students think through an opinion essay before they dive in. Not only does it have an engaging and meaningful (to them) prompts, but it also includes reasons and claims your students can use to back up their opinions.
Teaching math can be challenging this time of year! Make it easy for both you and your students by adding some Holiday themes to your math lessons. Review fractions and decimals in this fun and festive Christmas/Holiday math resource.
Transform your classroom into a holiday adventure with Christmas escape rooms! Escape Rooms can turn the most boring subject into a fun and motivating lesson. My Christmas-Themed Escape Room cover subjects such as Christmas Around the World Reading Comprehension, Decimal and Whole Number Word Problems, Fact and Opinion, and Christmas Trivia. It’s amazing what can happen in a classroom when you introduce a bit of competition or movement. Your students will love solving puzzles and earning a certificate with this resource!
Prepare a packet filled with Christmas-themed activities that students can work on independently. Include a variety of tasks such as ELA exercises, math puzzles, coloring pages, and simple crafts. See mine here for inspiration. This is perfect for early finishers, a Winter Break packet to send home, or as a go-to resource for much-needed sub-day.
A Christmas or Winter word search can be a great way to reinforce vocabulary and spelling. Create a word search using Christmas-related words such as “reindeer,” “mistletoe,” “presents,” and “snowflake.” It’s a fun and educational way to fill those spare moments throughout the day. Out of time? Take a look at a differentiated Christmas one I made here.
Nothing says the holiday like collaboration. This Happy Holidays Collaboration Coloring project is the perfect activity for those long, cold, late afternoons. Each student gets a portion of a picture to color. When finished, they work together to put the poster together. What a beautiful thing!
I have found the key to a successful and enjoyable holiday season in the classroom is to blend fun with academics and reviews. These Christmas activities can help you create a fun and festive atmosphere while keeping your students engaged and learning. Plus, they provide an excellent opportunity for students to practice important skills in a joyful and relaxed setting.
